Big Jerry’s Fencing Wilmington Permitting Requirements
Wilmington is a port town located in New Hanover County. It has its own Unified Development Ordinance and also follows the county’s laws and regulations. So property owners must confirm that they are compliant with both prior to fence installation.
Fence Permit
While a permit is not required, property owners will need to have a survey conducted by the planning department to ensure their fences comply with the UDO.
Zoning Considerations
The allowed height for residential fences is limited to 4 feet in front yards and up to 8 feet i side/rear yards. Properties located in Historic Districts have additional restrictions and may need a Certificate of Appropriateness.
Penalties of No Permit
Installing a fence without proper permits can result in fines, stop-work orders, or mandatory removal.

We had an issue with a defective latch and they came back out and fixed that and secured the gate post more for our peace of mind.
