Big Jerry’s Fencing Permitting Requirements
Tillery is an unincorporated community in Halifax County, due to which your fencing project is subject to county regulations rather than local town rules. Although a county building permit is usually not required for standard residential fences, you must still comply with all Halifax County zoning ordinances.
Fence Permit
To install a general residential fence, you may not need a county-issued Building Permit. Tillery follows Halifax County’s building and zoning regulations. The county does not require a permit for fence installation unless the fence is taller than 6.5 feet.
Penalties of No Permit
Failure to comply with regulations may result in fines or the mandatory removal of fences. We make sure that your project is done right as of the beginning.
Easement & Right-of-Way Compliance
Fences cannot be installed within any recorded utility, drainage, or access easement. Fences encroaching on easements may be removed by the county or utility provider.

I had Big Jerry’s install a 4 foot wooden privacy fence in a yard of a home my wife and I recently purchased. The home had an irrigation system for which I had a few very details on where the plumbing actually was located since I didn’t install it. Edwin and the guys from Jerry’s were very diligent in ensuring the didn’t hit the irrigation system while they were hand digging the post holes. I really appreciated this. The fence looks great. They cleaned up and left my yard clean of debris. Very happy with their work.

Highly recommend Big Jerry’s for anyone looking to install a fence in their yard. They are professional. Their prices are competitive and reasonable.They respond to questions quickly.. They are very efficient in communicating. The installation crew are punctual and clean up after themselves. We have a sloped yard and they did an amazing job making our fence look smooth and seamless. We liked them so much, that we brought them back to do another smaller decorative privacy fence. The quality of the fences are. Excellent. We used an aluminum (4’ Elon) fence for the perimeter of the yard, and the horizontal wood fence (skyline deluxe ) for the privacy decorative fence.

The entire Big Jerrys team made the entire process very enjoyable. From design to completion they were communicative and always helpful. Front office & sales staff were stellar. The Cannonball & aluminum fence they installed on our property is quality & absolutely gorgeous. Fredy & Ramon are the Picasso of fence installation.
